Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement from Bilayer Molybdenum Disulfide via the Combination of UV Irradiation and Superacid Molecular Treatment

A direct band gap nature in semiconducting materials makes them useful for optical devices due to the strong absorption of photons and their luminescence properties. Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have received significant attention as semiconductors a platform applications physics. However, bilayer or thicker layered samples exhibit an indirect gap. Here, we propose method that converts MoS2, one representative TMDCs, enhances photoluminescence (PL) intensity MoS2 dramatically. The procedure combines UV irradiation with superacid molecular treatment on MoS2. induces conversion PL property situation when interaction between top bottom layers is weakened by sort misalignment them. Furthermore, additional post-superacid dramatically factor 700×. this not effective conventional sample, which shows no enhancement. From these results, separated layer would show from treatment. monolayer-like physically substrate intermediate layer, be preferable achieving intensity. This finding will controlling optoelectronic properties thick TMDCs demonstration high-performance devices.
